Exciting new LinkedIn tools

On March 11, 2011, LinkedIn introduced two new innovative tools for professionals to ‘stay ahead of their game’.

The tools were created to enable LinkedIn users to selectively search for relevant news and information that matters to them and/or their business.

1. LinkedIn Signal
LinkedIn Signal was created as a type of filing system, making it easier for users to make sense of the status updates and streams of news shared in the network. Through filters, searches, and trending topics, you are now able to narrow what is shown on your stream down to specific information that you are interested in.

Signal can be used to navigate your stream by network, company, industry, region, people and popular hashtags/topics so your search can be as specific, or as selective, as you need it to be.

The feed can also be saved; so real-time updates are constant every time you log in.

2. LinkedIn Today

LinkedIn Today in beta surfaces the top headlines and stories being shared most often by LinkedIn’s network of professionals.

You are now able to see what news stories are impacting your industry, what your connections are reading and what headlines are translating across numerous industries within LinkedIn’s professional network.

You can now ‘follow’ up to 22 industries, and specific news sources, to customize your Today experience.

The relationship between LinkedIn and Twitter has resulted in the new ability to bind both your Twitter and LinkedIn accounts, so that sharing updates and news between both mediums is merged. The Today product means that you can now share specific trending news with your Twitter stream.

LinkedIn’s iPhone application version 3.6 has also recently launched- meaning that you can now use your iPhone to make use of the Today program; accessing and saving top news articles relating to your industry directly from your iPhone.
